The state of Connecticut requires that you pass a certified nursing assistant training program before you can take a license examination to be able to practice legally. Nurse aides are not allowed to work in healthcare setting if they do not have a license that was issued by the state’s Department of Public Health. They will only get a license if they have taken a license exam that is conducted by Prometric and get their name entered in the state’s Nurse Aide Registry.
Your first step is to enroll in a certified training program. These programs only take a few weeks to finish. The programs in this state must offer their students at least 100 hours of theoretical lessons and 16 hours of skills training. Before they will be placed in the clinical area, they must first be trained on the different interpersonal and therapeutic communication skills, infection control, patient/resident care, and the safety and emergency procedures. When they are in the clinical area, they will be placed under the supervision of a registered nurse or trained healthcare personnel.
After the completion of their training, they will become eligible to take the certification exams. Those who finished RN or LPN courses are also able to apply for the CNA license exams. All applications are forwarded to Thomson Prometric since they are the ones who are conducting the license exams. A common requirement for all is the results for the background checks that are done at both federal and state levels. Once you have passed the exam; your license will be valid up to 2 years and will be required for a renewal after.
