Working as a nurse aide in Utah means that you will be working under the supervision of licensed nurses. You will be tasked to perform nursing and nursing care to patients in different healthcare settings. Since you will be working closely with the patients, it is important that you gain the proper knowledge and skills needed to do so.
CNA training programs offer all the things that you will need in order to become a competent nurse aide. If you enroll, you will spend a minimum of 50 hours in the classroom and 30 hours in the clinical area for the practical portion of your training.
Upon enrolling in a program all students are required to be fingerprinted for the criminal background check. The background checks will be done at both federal and state levels. The background checks are now required because of the numerous incidents that involved healthcare workers.
Completing an approved CNA program will make you eligible to apply for the National Nurse Aide Assessment Program. Although this might not be the only way to become qualified, it is however the most common. Nursing students, graduates, and those who were able to learn the Fundamentals of Nursing are also allowed to apply for the exam.
The NNAAP exam consists of a written exam that is taken on the computer and a practical skills test. The written exam will already include audio to help those who have some trouble reading. If a candidate has difficulty using a computer, he or she can request to have a pencil and paper test.
Candidates must be able to pass both tests to get into the Utah Nurse Aide Registry. If a candidate fails he is allowed to retake the exam twice. If a candidate still fails his 3rd try he will be required to complete another training program before he can reapply.
The NNAAP exam is conducted with the help of D&S Diversified Technologies. If you wish to take a sample test of the written exam, you can visit www.utahcna.com. You can also download a copy of the Candidate Handbook which contains detailed information regarding the certification process in Utah.
