The first step in becoming a nursing assistant is by finding a CNA training program. The state requires that all aspiring nursing assistants should enroll only in a state-approved program to ensure learning good quality education and training. These programs are found almost anywhere in Kansas and are offered by different institutions because of the profession’s high demand. These programs are required to offer their student a total of 90 hours of training. The training will be composed of lectures, skills training, and clinical experience. You will be taught on the different nursing skills such as taking the vital signs, maintaining hygiene, promoting safety and health, and assist in the patient’s/resident’s daily activities.
After you complete your training, you can then apply for the license exams. Taking the license exams is an important step since you will not be able to work if your name is not in the Registry. If you think that you are still not ready, you may postpone in taking for up to 24 months. The license exams for this state are handled by Health Occupations Credentialing and are composed of a written and a skills demonstration exam.
For those that worked as nurses in a different country, they are very much welcomed to apply for a certification. When they apply they will be required to provide documents like their employment history or transcript of records. The state of Kansas is also open to certified nursing assistants that come from other states. The process is called reciprocity and you can speak with a support representative of the Kansas Nurse Aide Registry at (785) 296-6877 to learn more.
