There are different requirements that must be complied with before you are allowed to take the licensee exams. To be eligible to apply for the exams, you must finish a CNA training class that is approved by the state. You can also enroll in other nursing courses so long as its curriculum fits the requirements that were identified by the federal and the state. An advantage of choosing to enroll in a nurse aide class is that it does not take that long to complete most programs. Some nursing home courses even provide you with employment upon completion of your certification exams.
For you to finish a course, you must have at least 100 hours of training where 16 hours of it is allocated in training you on resident’s rights, resident’s independence, safety protocols, communication skills, and emergency procedures before you are allowed to handle patients/residents. Depending on the program you select, it will take about 6 months or less, to finish your training.
The nurse aide license exams for Connecticut are conducted by Prometric. All applications are forwarded to them. To get your license, you must pass its two parts, which are the written and the knowledge demonstration of skills. If you pass, your name will be entered in the state’s Nurse Aide Registry. It will be the Department of Public Health who will give you your certification/license. If you are a holder of a nursing assistant license that was issued from another state, you can still work here if you apply for reciprocity. When applying, you must still have an active license and a good relation with your state. You will also be required to show proof of your training and experiences.
