The completion of a CNA training program is one of the most important requirements in becoming a nursing assistant. Without any proper training, you cannot become eligible to apply for the license exams. The state of Connecticut does not allow its nurse aides to work without a license. According to the list of the Department of Public Health, there are over 150 certified training programs that are found all over the state. Before you enroll, you should make sure that the program you enroll in is certified so that you can be sure that you will be eligible for the license exam after your training.
For a training program to be certified, it must offer its students 100 hours of training and be coordinated by a registered nurse with a minimum of 2 years of experience. It must teach them the different concepts that were identified by both the federal and the state. The students should also be allowed to handle actual patients during their training. They must have at least 16 hours of training and education in infection control, resident’s rights, resident’s independence, and safety and emergency procedures before they are to handle any patient/resident.
After you complete your training your next step is to send in your application form along with the necessary documents and schedule a date to take the exams. Those who completed nursing courses like LPNs or RNs may also apply for the nursing assistant license exams if they wish to pursue this type of career. You can learn more about certification qualifications and setting up a testing date by calling Prometric at 866-499-7485. After passing, your license will be valid for the next 2 years.
