• At least have a high school diploma or a GED certificate

CNA training programs in California offer a minimum of 150 hours of lectures and clinical training. All programs are headed by a qualified Instructor with at least 2 years of nursing experience and 24 hours of continuing education about planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing educational programs. When going to the clinical area, students are divided into groups with a maximum of 15 members. This is to allow maximum learning from the students.
Upon completing a program, you will become eligible to apply for the NNAAP examination. You are allowed two years from the time you complete training to pass the two part NNAAP Examination. This examination is divided into two parts – a 70-item multiple-choice knowledge test and a clinical skills exam. The fee for both tests is $90; if a candidate opts to take an oral exam for the knowledge test, he must pay an additional of $15.
In the event that you do not pass one of the tests, you are given three attempts within 2 years after completing your training to pass. If you fail to pass within those attempts or within that time, you will no longer be allowed to reapply unless you complete another 150-hour CNA program.
Your CNA certification will only be valid for 24 months. To keep working as a certified nursing aide, you must renew your certification before it expires. To be eligible for renewal, you must provide proof of employment as a nursing aide for at least 8 hours as well as proof of completing 48 hours of in-service training/CE.
