According to the regulations of the state, all nursing aides working in a nursing home must be able to get their name entered on the NCNAR. One way of doing so is being able to complete training program that is approved by the state’s Department of Health and Human Services. Since there are also programs that are offered at approved high-schools, high school students can also become a CNA once their name is on the Registry.
The exams for this state are handled by Pearson VUE. With their new online system, the applications for the Nurse Aide I competency exams are now done only online. This new application system now gives the power of scheduling the exams to the nursing aide candidates. The candidates may only take the exams at approved testing sites, which must be specified during application. Instructions regarding what to do when applying can be downloaded from this link: http://www.pearsonvue.com/nc/nurseaides/schedule/.
Once the candidate is able to pass all the tests, his name is automatically entered on the Registry. A nursing aide candidate who completed the necessary training can also work in a nursing home for up to 4 months while waiting to take the exams. If there are no technical difficulties with the scoring, the results of your tests will be released on the same day. Every candidate is given 3 attempts to pass all the tests, if he fails after the third try, he will be required to undergo retraining.
Every record of a nursing aide on the Registry contains personal information. If a nursing aide changes his/her name or address, he/she is required to inform the Registy. Informing the Registry can be done through different forms such as:
• Sending the Name/Address Change Report Form
• Calling the Registry (For changes regarding mailing address only)
