Only those who are on the NA Registry are allowed to work as a nursing assistant in the state. There are two ways to get your name entered on the Registry. One if by challenging and passing the LNA exams, while the other option is to apply for reciprocity. The latter option is only available for those who are already a nursing assistant that is registered in a different state.
Most applicants will choose to enroll in an approved training course that can be found in cities throughout the state. Courses usually take 8-12 weeks to complete. During instruction students receive skills training in a medical setting and class lectures about theoretical health care tasks. To complete the course one will need to finish a total of the minimum 144 hours of instruction.
Those who finish the classes can schedule a date for the two part examination to receive entry onto the state registry for a period of 2 years. Renewal will be available every 2 years by submitting work verification to the registry from your employer.
The information found on the Registry is not only the name of the individual.
