The requirements for becoming a CNA in the state of New Jersey are very similar to those of other U.S states. You are required to enroll in a nursing assistant training course before you are allowed to take the state exams. You will also be subjected to routine background checks to see if you have committed any felonies.
If you want to get administrative work in the medical field, you can try to become a nursing home administrator. When you apply to become an administrator, you will need to include:
• An application for administrative license
• Application for prior approval for internship
• College transcript of records
• Three letters of reference
• Payment of $100 for the application fee. The check should be made payable to the “Treasurer, State of New Jersey”.
When you submit your application it needs to be complete. An incomplete application packet will result in a delay in the processing. If your application is approved, you will get an Approval of Administrative Intern Program form, which will show your approval status.
The Administrative Intern Program takes 100 hours to complete. These will includes seminars and/or courses that will tackle different concepts that are relevant to long-term care administration. The concepts are determined by the New Jersey Nursing Home Administrators Licensing Board. You can find a few of the approved training programs by going to this link: http://nj.gov/health/healthfacilities/nhalb.shtml.
Aside from the 100-hour course, there is an additional ethics course that is specific for nursing home administrators that must be taken. These courses are also offered online. You can enroll in an online course by following this link: http://policy.rutgers.edu/ce/.
After completing the necessary seminars or courses, the next step that must be taken is to take the license exams. License exams for administrative candidates are computer-based tests, which are administered by the Professional Examination Service or PES. These PES or NAB (National Association of Boards of Examinations of Long Term Care Administrators) exams are given through the ProMetric testing centers.
