Becoming a nursing aide in the state of New Jersey is one of the best ways to start a career in the medical field. As a nursing aide, you work closely with the patients and help them in terms of their hygiene and monitoring their conditions. You can also choose if you wish to work in a nursing care facility or help in personal care homes.
If you want to become a nursing aide, then you will need to enroll in a private or community vocational school, community college, or a high school that offers NATCEP training. If you want a complete list of available training programs, you can request for one from the Division of Health Facilities Evaluation and Licensing, Certification Program. The list will also include private training centers. You can contact the Certification Program at 1-866-561-5914 to request for a copy for free. You can also download the list at www.state.nj.us/health/healthfacilities/documents/ltc/approved_natcep_programs.pdf.
NATCEP training takes 90 hours to complete. If you were hired by a license healthcare facility prior to the start of your training, you will not be charged for any costs. The payments will be secured by your hiring facility. For those who were hired as a nursing aide within 12 months from the day their names were entered on the NA Registry, they may also request for reimbursement.
The reimbursement for the costs can include, but are not limited to, payments for textbooks, modules, and other materials that were needed for the course. It is important that the training facilities remind and advise their students to keep all the original receipts and show them to their employer upon hiring.
It is important that your record on the Registry is up-to-date. That is why you must inform the registry if there were any significant changes in your life, such as a change in name, address, or a change in employer. To inform them, you may call their toll free number at 1-877-774-4243.
