The state of Arizona is very strict when it comes to their healthcare personnel. If you are looking for a way to start a career in the field of health, then there is no better way than becoming a certified nursing assistant.
Nursing assistants are health care providers who can be found working in almost any healthcare setting, including the patient’s own home. They work under the direct supervision of registered nurses, and help provide and maintain nursing and nursing-related care to patients. As a nursing assistant you’ll be providing basic nursing care, such as vital signs taking, performing bed baths, feeding through NGT, catheter care, assisting with ambulation, help perform active and passive ROM exercises, and many more.
You must be certified before you can work as a full-time nursing assistant. You can only get certified if your name is listed on the Nurse Aide Registry. The only way for you to get your name listed is by passing the National Nurse Aide Assessment Program right after you complete a state-certified training program.
Enrolling in a CNA training program one of the best ways you can establish eligibility to take the NNAAP exams and to learn the competencies needed to be a qualified nursing assistant. You can find these programs offered throughout the state by healthcare institutions and schools. These programs take 120 hours to complete and consist of both lectures and practical training. Depending on the program you choose, it can take you 3 to 4 months to complete your training.
After completing your training, you’ll be allowed to submit an application for the exams. The NNAAP exams in Arizona are conducted with the help of the Headmaster testing Company. The exam consists of a 90 minute written exam and a 35 minute skills exam. For the skills demonstration exams, only a few of the nursing skills will be randomly asked to be performed. You can contact the Arizona Nurses Registry at (302) 577-6666 to learn more about how you can receive your certification. Candidates will have 24 months after completing their training to pass both tests. If a candidate fails to pass both tests within that period, he or she will have to undergo retraining.
Once you’re certified, you will be allowed to work in any health care facility within the state for a two year period. If you wish to continue working, then you will have to renew your certification every 2 years before it expires. You can also transfer your certification and work in another state through endorsement. Since each state has its own set of requirements, you’ll have to contact the state’s Department of Health or Board of Nursing to find out what the exact requirements are.
