In order to become a nurse aide, you will need to get a CNA certification in Mississippi. This will require you to take the license exams, as well as comply with the different requirements in order to take the exams. The exams are composed of two parts, a written/oral and a skills exam. You will need to pass all the tests to get your certification/license.
For example, to be eligible to apply, you must first enroll in state-certified CNA training classes. To be accepted in one, you must be at least 18 years old and be physically capable of taking care of the patients. You will need to get a negative result on the TB test and have a complete immunization record. You must also be able to pass the criminal background checks, which are done at both Federal and State levels. To pass, you must not have any records of abuse or theft. It will take you 6 weeks to complete your training.
After completing the course, you will then be able to apply for the license exams. Those who graduated from nursing may also apply for the exams if they wish to pursue this line of work. When applying, you are also required to send in proof of your training and the payment for the testing fees, which is $101 for both the written and the skills evaluation exam. To schedule an exam you can contact Pearson Vue by calling 1-888-204-6213.
The state allows those who have previously been certified but have become inactive to apply for reciprocity. This can also apply to those who are currently certified and come from another state. To qualify you must meet the qualifications, send in a completed form and pay a reciprocity fee of $26.00 and a test fee of $101.00. Applicants for reciprocity receive one chance to pass both parts of the exam. Those who fail to pass one or both of the parts will need to retake a training programs to proceed. You can also get additional information about accepted nurse aide programs and the most recent requirements by calling the Mississippi State Department of Health at 601-364-1100.
