The state of Florida does not allow its nursing assistants to work in any healthcare setting without a certification. This is why taking the license exams is a necessary step in becoming a nurse aide. The license exams for this state are conducted by Prometric. Their exams are composed of a written and a skills evaluation. To get your name entered in the state’s Nurse Aide Registry, you must be able to pass both the exams. The most important prerequisites for the exams are the completion of a CNA class and passing the federal and state background checks.
In the written examination, every applicant will be given 90 minutes to answer all the questions. This exam will be made up of 60 items where all of it is multiple-choice questions. There will also be 10 questions that are pretest items. These questions will not be included in the scoring since they are place there for only statistical purposes. The topics will be tackling all about the different roles of the nurse aide, the promotion of function and health of the resident, and the promotion of safety. For the skills evaluation, you will be given a list of 5 nursing procedures that you must perform in a given scenario. Each applicant will have a different set of procedures since they are randomly selected by a computer from a list of 22 nursing procedures. To pass this exam, you must perform all 5 procedures satisfactorily while being observed by a nurse aide evaluator.
