To take the CNA certification exam in Illinois you are required to complete a training course that has been recommended by the state. Currently programs that are accepted provide forty hours of skills instruction in a medical setting, similar to what you would find in a care facility. You will be able to submit an application to take the exam after completion of your training. Applicants must by at least 16 years old, and pass a criminal background screen and present identifying documentation and picture I.D. Your school can help you schedule the certification exams or you can contact the state registry for help by calling 217-785-5133.
If you have finished military course that offered nursing classes on the basic skills, then you are still eligible to take the nursing assistant license exams. You still need to have at least 40 hours of experience on the field. Also you will need to show documents or evidence of your employment in the military. Those who are certified in a different state may be eligible to take the exams without going through an Illinois retraining program. To do this one must apply for reciprocity. You will need to show school transcripts/diploma and social security card to qualify.
