If you want to practical and quick way to enter the medical field, then becoming a nursing assistant is the answer. With the increasing demand for this profession, you will have no problems looking for work once you get certified. In the process of becoming a nursing assistant, your main goal will be getting your name on the Nurse Aide Registry. Only the individuals who are on the NAR are allowed to work as a nursing assistant in South Carolina.

One of the ways to get into the NAR is by passing the state competency exam. This exam is developed, scored, and released by Pearson VUE with the help of the NACES. It consists of a 70-item multiple-choice written/oral test and a random clinical skills evaluation test. If you pass all the tests within 3 attempts, you will get your name on the NAR and you will receive your CNA certification card.

Before you can apply for the exams, you will need to establish eligibility. This can be done by completing a state-approved 100-hour CNA training program. When you enroll, you will be spending the next 6-12 weeks learning different concepts and skills in the classroom and then applying what you learned in an actual clinical setting. Even when you are still in training, you will already get the chance to feel what it is like to work as a nursing assistant.

This exam is not only available to those who complete a South Carolina state-approved CNA program. People who did their nursing assistant training out of the state, nursing students, nursing graduates, and military-trained medics may also apply.
