In order to work in this state as a nursing assistant you must be able to pass the license exams.  The state’s license examination is conducted by Prometric. It is divided into two parts, a written and a skills demonstration exam. If you want to have an oral exam instead of a written, you can send a letter of request along with your application forms and documents. To get your name in the state’s Nurse Aide Registry, you have to pass both of the exams.

The written examination has 60 items and out of those, 10 will be pretest questions. These 10 questions will not be scored; they are added there simply for statistical purposes. Every applicant will be allotted 90 minutes to answer all the items.  The exam will be divided into three nursing aspects or domains, which will be the roles of a nurse aide, the promotion of safety, and the promotion of function and health of the residents.

As for the skills demonstration, you will be asked to perform 5 randomly selected nursing procedures. These procedures will be selected by a computer during your application. A nurse aide evaluator will list down what he/she has observed based on the different checkpoints for each skill. At the end of the exams, the results will then be fed into the computer where the Prometric system will determine if you have passed or not.
