The state requires all aspiring CNAs to undergo proper education and training before handling any individual as a nursing assistant. This means that all candidates must select a training program to enroll in and complete it. The training program that they choose should only be a program that is approved by the state. This is to ensure that they will be able to apply for the state’s competency exams after they complete their training. Depending on the program they enroll in, it will take an average of 24 weeks to complete a program.
Candidates also have the option of enrolling in a nursing course to be eligible to apply for the exams. They will only need to cover the fundamentals of nursing as well as 40 hours of clinical training. If you have undergone training in the military as a medic, you will also be allowed to apply for the exams. The license exams for this state are composed of two parts, a written and a skills demonstration on the basic competency skills. In order to get your name entered in the online registry, you have to pass all the exams. Since there are no partial passing, you will have to repeat the entire exam if you fail in one part. If you have learned the skills from a training course in a different state , you can apply for reciprocity in the state.
