When you apply for the license exams for the state of Nevada, you will be required to show proof that you have completed a state-approved CNA training program. The program you enrolled in should at least have 8 to 13 weeks of training.
It is recommended that you download an application from the Board of Nursing website and submit it early in the process so you can receive a fingerprint card via mail. All applicants need to submit a fingerprint card or have your fingerprints submitted through a livescan electronic transmission. Submitting this card as soon as possible will help expedite your application and approval.
As a nursing assistant student, you will be spending most of your time on lectures and skills training. In order to pass the programs, you must get 80% or higher on all written and oral tests. You are also required to perform all nursing skills that are taught in the program satisfactorily. You either pass or fail in performing the skills. You can find the list of skills that you will be taught in Appendix A at http://nevadanursingboard.org/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/CNA-Model-Curriculum-Aug-2006.pdf.
Before you graduate from the program, there will also be a final exam. The final exam will be composed of two parts, which is just like in the license exams. The exams will always include a skills evaluation. The first part of the exams may either be a written exam or an oral one.
Licenses will need to be renewed every two year period and you should receive a renewal application prior to the date it is due. You can renew by showing verification of eight hours spent in the job of a nurse aide from your employer. If you do not receive a renewal form you can contact the Board’s office at (888) 590-6726 to make a request to have one mailed to you.
