To qualify to take the CNA certification test in the state of Florida it is necessary to meet certain criteria. First, you must be 18 years old, pass a background check, have basic reading and writing comprehension, and have completed a nurse aide program that meets Florida criteria. This certified nursing assistant program criteria includes the completion of at least 75 hours of classroom instruction and 100 hours of practice in a clinical environment. Upon completing these actions the nursing assistant student becomes eligible to take the nurse aide test. The test itself is two parts and is made up of a oral and written component as well as a skills test.
The completion of a certified training program is the only way you can be eligible to apply for the license exam. You cannot work in this state if you do not have a license. The exams for Florida are conducted by Prometric. Their exams are composed of two parts, a written exam and a skills demonstration examination. The written exams are composed of 60 multiple-choice questions which covers three domains. These domains are about the promotion of safety, the roles of the nurse aide, and the promotion of functioning and health of the resident. You can also request to have the written exam replaced with an oral examination if you prefer it. To do so, you must send a letter along with the rest of the needed documents during your application. In the skills demonstration exams, you must perform 5 randomly selected nursing skills. Each skill will have a checkpoint that you must perform. These checkpoints will serve as a basis not only for you, but for the nurse aide evaluator as well to see if you have performed the skills well. To pass this exam, you have to perform all the 5 nursing skills satisfactorily. You will be expected to perform proper hand washing before you handle any patient. These skills will all be performed in a given simple scenario.
