There are two ways to become a CNA in the state of Mississipi. One is to challenge and pass the certification exam, which is only offered to those who were able to receive proper training. The other is by reciprocity. The latter option is only available for those who are already a nurse aide that is currently registered to another state.
If you have no proper education and training, you will need to first enroll in a 130-hour training program. You will be spending your time learning different concepts of the Fundamentals of Nursing and train in an actual clinical setting. You will learn things like infection control, mental health, rehabilitation, and the promotion and respect of the patient’s rights and independence. These programs last only 6 weeks. Afterwards, you can then apply for the examinations by simply sending in your application form along with other needed documents like proof of training.
Reciprocity is the process by which a nurse aide is allowed to transfer into the state and work in a healthcare facility. When applying, the applicant must currently have an active certification and have no records of abuse, neglect, or misappropriation of a patient’s property. Like all other applicants, he must also be able to pass the criminal background checks, which are done at both Federal and State levels.
