To be allowed to work in the state of Nevada as a nursing assistant it is important that one be properly trained and certified to handle patients. Most applicants will enroll in a state appointed class program that teaches health care theory, and offers hands-on practice performing the tasks used during the work day. Classes are required to offer a minimum of 75 hours of instruction that offers hands-on and theory, which includes lectures and coursework.
A different option in entering the Nevada Nurse Aide Registry is to apply for reciprocity. When you apply, you must have the Endorsement Form of CNA completed by every state that you were registered in. There may be some states that will charge you a fee for the completion of the forms. You can download the forms from the Board’s website at www.nursingboard.state.nv.us. You can also call them at 1-800-590-6726.
If you downloaded the application forms from the Board’s website, you will receive a fingerprint card a few days from the Board’s receipt of your application. The fingerprint cards are necessary for the background checks that will be done at federal and state levels. You will need to fill them out and send them with the necessary forms to the NV Board of Nursing.
If you had your fingerprints taken within Nevada, then you may send your prints electronically. If you do this, you will no longer be sending the Board the processing fees. Instead, you will directly pay the agency that took your prints. It may take up to 4 months for the Board to get the official results. During that time, you may work in the state by applying for a temporary license.
Once licensed, certified nurse aides make about $25,000 a year on average. On the low end, workers in this field can expect a salary of about $20,000, while those on the higher end can expect to earn $30,000 or more per year.
