The first step in becoming a nursing aide in Nevada is by enrolling in a state-certified training program. These programs are being offered by different institutions. You must enroll in a training program that is approved by the state to ensure that you will be allowed to take the license exams afterwards.
State-approved training programs are required to offer 8 to 13 weeks of training. Their training should be composed of lectures, skills training, and clinical duties. All procedures will be conducted under the general supervision of an experienced registered nurse in a medical setting. Your transcript for the Fundamentals of Nursing will be one of the requirements when you apply for the exams. You will need to have submitted a Fingerprint Card to the state in order to qualify for testing.
The license exams have two parts, a written exam and a skills evaluation portion. You will need to pass both parts in order to get your name entered on the Registry. You can see the schedule for the license exams for 2013 at https://www.prometric.com/en-us/clients/Nurseaide/Documents/Nevada/nvtestingcalendar2013.pdf. Once you complete the exams they will be officially verified by the Board and can take 2-3 weeks to be received and approved by them. You can contact the Board of Nursing about the status of your certification by calling toll free to (888) 590-6726.
If you are currently certified in another state you may qualify for a CNA certificate by endorsement. To receive further information about this process you can call the Board office at (888) 590-6726. The state of Nevada issues certificates, not licenses, to their nurse aides.
