It is not that hard to become a nursing assistant in the state of Mississippi if you know what you are supposed to do. The first thing that needs to be done is to enroll in a state-certified training program. To be accepted in one, you must be at least 18 years old, be physically capable of taking care of the patients, get a negative on the TB test, and have completed necessary immunizations.
The programs take 6 weeks to complete. In order to meet the 130 training hours that is required by the state, you must always be present in the training sessions. Your training will be composed of classroom lectures, clinical duties, and laboratory works. You will be taught different concepts such as mental health, infection control, rehabilitation, emergency procedures, and proper ways in assisting in a patient’s ADLs.
By completing a state-approved program, you will become eligible to apply for the NNAAP examinations. All aspiring nursing assistants must take this exam since it will evaluate their capacity to work as one. Nursing graduates and foreign RNs may also apply for the exam if they meet the requirements. To get a CNA certificate, the applicant must be able to pass all the tests. For more information, you can visit www.pearsonvue.com since they are the authorized conductors of the exams.
CNAs from other states may also transfer and work in Mississippi by applying for reciprocity. When they apply, they must have an active status on their state’s Registry, as well as a good relationship with their state. They must not have any records of negligence or abuse of a patient.
