If you are planning on becoming a nursing assistant in the state of Illinois, you need to know and comply with the requirements of the state. According to the state rules, all aspiring nursing assistants are required to undergo training in a state-approved training program. You may have the option of choosing to enroll in either a CNA training course or a nursing related program like LPN. The program should offer forty hours of training in the skills you will use as a nurses aide.
It is very important that when you complete your training, you must be able to apply for the nursing assistant competency exams. These exams are composed of a written exam and a skills evaluation. You will need to pass both parts of the exams to get your name entered in the Nurse Aide Registry. Unlike other states where their exams are conducted by an authorized private contractor, there are a number of testing centers that are allowed to give the exams.
The state of Illinois is not only open to those that had finished a nursing assistant course from another state, but it is also open to those that come from other states. All they should do is to apply for reciprocity. Once they apply, they will be required to show the documents proving their training in their area. Medics that were trained by the military are also allowed to take the exams if they wish. When applying, they will just need to provide proof of their education and training along with the appropriate forms. They must also have at least 40 hours of experiences as a medic. You download a copy of the different forms at www.idph.state.il.us/nar.
