If you wish to work as a nursing assistant you will need to get your name entered on the Michigan Nurse Aide Registry. The only way for you to get it there is if you are able to pass the evaluations exams. These exams are only offered to those who have been able to comply with both the federal and state requirements such as completing training from a state-certified training program.
The training must be approved by the state registry for you to qualify for the examination. Instruction will be at least 75 hours that includes skills training in 51 different health care related tasks. Several of these skills will be selected at random when you take your exams. To be eligible for training you will need to have a recent chest x-ray or TB test, consent to a background check, be 16 years old and have English comprehension. The license exams for this state are conducted by Prometric. Their exams are composed of a written and a practical demonstration of the skills that you have learned during your training. The written part will last up to a couple of hours, while the skills test will only last a few minutes. You must be able to pass both parts to get your license. Nurse aide licenses in this state are only valid for up to two years. If you wish to continue working, then you will need to renew it.
