Before you are allowed to handle any patient as a CNA, you must first be able to finish a state-approved training program. These programs are offered by community training centers, healthcare facilities, technical colleges, and even high schools. To be accepted, you must be at least 16 years of age and be physically fit to handle different patients.
These programs are found all over the state and can be completed within a matter of 24 weeks or less. You’ll want to make sure though that the program that you enter is approved by the state of Illinois and provides the required number of number of hours of instruction. This is currently set at 40 hours of hands-on practical experience in a nursing type facility. After your training is complete
By completing a training program, you will become eligible to apply for the license exams. You can send in your school transcripts, consent to a background check and submit an application to take the certification exam. You can get a copy of the forms by downloading it at http://www.idph.state.il.us/nar/. Examples of the needed documents include proof of your training, ID cards, fingerprint cards for the background checks, and the payments for the exam fees. You will also need to undergo immunizations to make sure that you are not a carrier of a communicable disease.
The license exams for this state have two parts, a written and a skills demonstration exam. If you want your name to be entered in the Nurse Aide Registry, you must be able to pass all the tests. You must maintain this status in order for you to be able to find work. Unlike other states, nurse aide licenses in Illinois do not expire so long as you have had a job within 24 consecutive months.
