You would need to finish a state approved CNA training program if you would like to gain a certification in the state of Louisiana. Look for a training program which has been approved by the state’s Department of Health to make sure that you will be eligible for the state competency exam after you finish the course. The training should be able to furnish you with the necessary skills and knowledge that you need in order to work efficiently as a nursing assistant after you finish the course.
If you are able to pass all of the tests, your name will be entered on the Nurse Aide Registry and you will receive your license. The validity of your licenses will only last for up to 2 years, which starts at the day you were given your license. In order for you to continue your work, you will need to renew it. To be eligible for renewal, you must have at worked at least 8 hours under the supervision of a registered nurse. Working as a private nursing assistant will not be credited as valid working hours and you will not be allowed to apply. To ensure that you will become eligible for renewal, the place you are working for must also be approved by the state’s Department of Health and Hospitals. You can contact Shirley Smith, The LA Program Manager at (225) 342-5779 for additional details.
