The completion of a training program is an important step in becoming a nursing assistant. Before you are allowed to handle any patient as one, you should know how to do so properly. To complete a program, you must have a total of 75 hours of training. These training hours will be divided into lectures and skills training, as well as clinical duties. It is important that you should only enroll in a program that is certified by the state. Before you can enroll in a training program, you will have to undergo a routine background check to see if you are of legal age and have no criminal background history. The certification exam itself is two parts and contains a written competency portion and a manual skills test. Those who pass the exam will be added to the Kentucky Nurse Aide Registry.
After you complete your training, the next step for you is to apply for the license exams. These exams are composed of a written exam and a skills evaluation. If you are able to pass all the tests, your name will automatically be entered in the state’s Nurse Aide Registry. Only those CNAs whose names are on the Registry will be allowed to work in a nursing home.
If you are a CNA license holder from a different state, then you may apply for reciprocity if you want to work in Kentucky as one. When you apply, you have to make sure that your license is still valid. It is also important that you have no records that may prevent you from working as a nursing assistant. Examples of such records may include negligence or malpractice. To be considered you must submit the following: full name, phone number, address, social security number, birth date, certification number, state you are licensed in, copies of your social security card, certification card and driver’s license.
