Certified Nurse Aides are constantly in demand everywhere in the United States. This is one of the many reasons why people are now thinking about becoming nurse aides. Since CNAs are entry-level professionals, training to become one is much easier and a lot quicker compared to other careers such as Nursing.
Nurse Aide training only lasts for a few months. Training programs that are approved by the Virginia Board of Nursing are only required to offer at least 75 hours of training, although most of them offer more than the required number of hours. The training hours are divided into lectures and supervised clinical practice. Students are divided into groups, especially when in the clinical area, to use the maximum learning potential.
As soon as you are through with your training you will become eligible to apply for the NNAAP exam. Your instructor will provide you with the application packet that you will need to apply for the NNAAP exam. All applications must be completed and sent to the address below:
NACES Plus Foundation, Inc.
8501 North Mopac Expressway, Suite 400
Austin, Texas 78759
(800) 758-6028
If you lost your application forms or did not get one, then you can download and print a copy at www.pearsonvue.com or at www.dhp.virginia.gov. These sites also contain other useful information that you might want to know.
The NNAAP exam consists of a multiple-choice knowledge test and a skills evaluation exam. Both tests must be passed to get certified. If you are unable to pass one exam you can reapply and retake the exam that you failed. The good news is that there is no limit on how many times you can retake the exam. You just need to pass both tests within 2 years after the first time you took it. If you fail to pass within the 2 years you first took the exam you will be required to complete another training program.
The exam results are normally released on the same day. Your test papers will be faxed at the end of each exam for scoring. The results are sent back within 10 minutes after they have been faxed. If you pass both tests, then your name will be entered into the Nurse Aide Registry and you will receive a CNA certification.
