In order to work as a nursing assistant and care for patients, you should first learn how to do it well. You can do that by enrolling in a state approved CNA training program and finishing the course well. The accredited training program would require you to have at least 75 hours of classroom training and 16 hours of actual or practical experience. You would also need to pass the state’s other requirements as well such as a state and federal background check and a physical exam. The state competency test is composed of both a written and skills portion which you would need to pass successfully in order to gain a certification and be entered in the state’s nurse aide registry, signifying that you are eligible to work.
Interstate Endorsement is the process where a CNA that is currently a part of a NA Registry of a different state is entered on Montana’s Nurse Aide Registry. When applying for this, the applicant must have an active license status and a good relationship with the state the applicant comes from.
The application forms can be downloaded at http://www.dphhs.mt.gov/cna/endorsementapplication.pdf. Once the forms have been filled out, the applicant must send it to Montana’s NA Registry at PO Box 202953 Helena, MT 59620-2953. A copy or proof of the applicant’s nurse aide certification/license must be included with the forms.
There are no processing fees, when applying for reciprocity. It will take an average of 15 working days to process the application. Please make sure that the application is complete. Incomplete applications will not be entertained and will be rejected immediately. A nurse aide may work temporarily for up to 30 days while waiting for the results of the application. If you need any help with the application or have any questions you may call the Registry at (406) 444-4980 or email them at cna@mt,gov.
