There are several things that you have to do first before you can become a nursing assistant. Among them, the first thing that you need to do is to find a CNA training program to enroll in. The program should be approved by the state to ensure that you will be allowed to apply for the license exams after you complete your training. Most of the training programs that are found in the state can be completed once you have a total of 105 training hours, which must include at least 75 hours of clinical duties. This generally takes from 2 or 6 months to finish. How long your class takes will depend on the schedules of the program that you enrolled in.
Upon completion you will be qualified to submit your transcripts, other identification information, and consent to a background check in order to take the certification exams. To apply you will need to send the Nurse Aide Final Exam Application form and the necessary documents such as the results of the criminal background checks. You can get a copy of the forms by requesting it from your training facility or visit http://www.in.gov/isdh/21837.htm. You will not be allowed to proceed and take the exams without this information. If you are not able to pass the exams, your name will not be entered in the state’s Nurse Aide Registry. The state will not allow any individual to work in a nursing facility. For more information, you can follow this link: http://www.state.in.us/isdh/files/general.pdf. Those who have finished a state-approved CNA training can go on to become a qualified medication aide (QMA). To qualify one must have 1,000 work hours as a nurse aide before submitting an application to the QMA class program.
