There are a number of ways for you to become a nursing assistant in Illinois. One of the most common and cheapest ways is to enroll in a state-approved CNA program. These programs are offered by colleges, healthcare centers, community training centers, and other training institutions.
A nurse aide will be tasked to perform only the basics of nursing care, under the general observation of RN’s. Programs are required to provide at the minimum of forty hours of instruction to prepare students for the certification exam and give them practical experience performing many of the frequently used tasks. Most of the programs that are being offered in the state can be completed in a matter of 2 to 6 months. By completing a training program, you will become eligible to apply for the exams.
Another way for you to become eligible is to enroll in a nursing course. You must cover the different concepts of the Fundamentals of Nursing. You should also have at least 40 hours of clinical experiences after you have learned the basic nursing skills. Medics that were trained by the military are also allowed to apply if they can provide proof of their training and meet the minimum required hours of training or experience. When you complete your training from a state-approved program, you will be allowed to submit your application forms along with the needed documents. Examples of such documents include fingerprint cards, ID photos, passport size pictures, and the payment for the exams fees.
