If you are planning to become a nursing assistant in the state of Illinois, you should know what the different requirements are. The first thing that you must do is to choose a nurse aide course to enroll in. The completion of a certified training course will make you eligible to apply for the competency exams. These programs are found all over the state and are offered by different institutions like colleges, and community training and healthcare centers. Most of the programs that are offered by this state can be finished within 24 weeks. In order to complete a program, you must have a total of 40 hours of clinical training, which will already include the needed course work.
Taking on the license exams is a necessary step in becoming a CNA. The state does not allow a nursing assistant to handle any resident if their name is not in the states’ Nurse Aide Registry. In order to get their name entered in the registry, they will have to pass all the tests in the competency exams. The exam has two parts which are a manual skills test and a written competency test. The great thing about being in a nursing assistant in this state is that if you have worked for at least 8 hours within 24 months, your license status will not expire. Keep in mind that the state no longer requires testing centers to issue certificates or licenses upon passing their competency exams.
