You must first pass one of the nursing assistant courses that are approved by the state of Maryland before you can become a nursing assistant. Most programs will take about 2 to 6 months to complete, with at 100 hours’ worth of lectures and clinical duties. You can then try to apply for a license exam. If you pass, the license will be valid up to two years.
As of January 27, 2012, the Maryland Board of Nursing has deemed it mandatory that all applicants must submit either their SSN or Federal Tax ID number upon application. Applications that do not have these will be considered incomplete and will not be processed. The Board of Nursing has been required by the Federal and State law to gather this information for the purpose of:
1. Verifying the identity of the applicant with respect to final adverse actions to his/her certification.
2. The administration of Child Support Enforcement Program.
