There are different requirements that must be followed in order to become a nursing assistant in the state of Florida. Some of these requirements might take quite a bit of time to prepare for so it is better to be informed about the certification requirements and before enrolling in any programs that are not state approved. According to the recent rules, in order to work as a nursing assistant in Florida, you must be able to read and write, be at least 18 years old, and have a high school diploma or something that is equivalent to it. You will be required to finish a CNA training program that is approved and licensed by the state. Once you have finished your training, you will be able to apply for the license exams. You are required to have a license before you can work in any healthcare facility. The exams will have a written and a skills demonstration. You can change the written exams with an oral exam if you request it during your application. The written exam is composed of a 60 questions that will have 10 pretested questions. These exams will cover different domains such as the roles of the nurse aide, promotion of safety, and the promotion of function and health of the resident. These 10 questions will not be scored. As for the skills demonstration, you will be given a simple scenario where you will incorporate the different nursing skills that will be randomly selected.
CNA licenses in this state must be renewed every two years. You have the option of sending your renewal application through the mail or the fill it up in the internet. In addition to renewing your registry listing by submitting work verification every 24 months, nurse aides are also required to complete a minimum of 12 hours of inservice training each year.
