The Healthcare Licensing and Surveys maintain the state’s Nurse Aide Registry, which contains all nurse aides who are certified to provide nursing and nursing-related services in long-term care facilities that are licensed by the state’s Department of Health. You need to get your name listed on the NAR to work as a CNA in Wyoming.
You can gain entry into the NAR through the NATCEP examination. Only those who have met eligibility requirements are allowed to apply for the CNA exams in this state. The most common way of becoming eligible is by graduating a state board-approved training school.
The state requires training facilities to become certified by the Board of Nursing before handling any student. All training programs are required to last no less than 105 hours of instructions. Seventy-five (75) of the total hours are required to be allocated for classroom and laboratory instructions while the remaining hours are for hands-on training.
You must submit this application form after you complete your training: https://nursing-online.state.wy.us/Resources/CNA%20Exam%20App%2010-25-2013.pdf. The form will have the complete address of the Board of Nursing on it. First-time takers are required to pay $60 for the application process. This does not include the payment of the testing fee of the NATCEP exams and the criminal background checks.
The NATCEP exams are divided into two parts: a multiple-choice written exam and a manual skills evaluation. Candidates must pass both tests within one year after the completion of their training. Each candidate is allowed to take the exams, no more than five (5) within that year.
A CNA from a different state may apply for endorsement and get placed on the state’s Nurse Aide Registry without the need for further training and testing. To qualify, an applicant must:
• Complete a state-approved training program and competency evaluation exam
• Submit completed application form and payment of $60 for the application fee
• Submit fingerprints and $60 for a background check fee
• Proof of initial state of certification by examination
• Submit proof of meeting competencies under Section 12.
CNAs are required to renew their certification every 2 years. The state requires them to work for at least 16 hours as paid workers, providing nursing services while under the supervision of a registered nurse to qualify for renewal of certification. There is a $50 renewal fee; if the certified nurse aide is not able to renew on time, then he or she’ll be charged with an additional $35.
