The most common way of becoming a nursing assistant is undergoing proper education and training in a state-certified CNA training course. These courses will take you an average of 6 months to complete since they will require you to have 100 hours of skills training and 75 hours of lectures. These lectures will cover different subjects like infection control, mental health, rehabilitation, patient’s rights, as well as different medical terms. You will also be trained in the basic nursing skills like vital signs taking, catheter care, performing bed baths, offering the use of bedpans, assisting in ambulation, bathing, dressing, ROM exercises, maintain immediate living environment, and other activities that they do daily. After the completion of the training, the next step is to take on the license exams.
Another way of work in this state as a nursing assistant is through endorsement. The state offers nurse aides reciprocity so that they can work in the state if they wish to. When applying, the applicant must make sure that their license status is still active. They will no longer be required to take the license exams in this state. Each applicant will be required to submit a copy of their certification, exam results, and the results for the background checks.
