According the state rules, you will not be able to work in a healthcare facility if you are not able to get your name in the Nurse Aide Registry. The Registry is a computerized listing of all the nurse aides who were able to complete 105 training hours, which will include 75 hours of clinical experience, and was able to take the license exams. You will practice performing the most common tasks and procedures used on the job during your instruction. Some of these include, safety procedures, infection control, catheter care, housekeeping, transporting patients, range of motion exercises, measuring vitals signs, supine/lateral positioning, blood pressure, dressing, perineal care, Fowler’s position, CPR, Heimlich, and First Aide to name a few.
Before you are able to take the exams, there are a number of requirements that you must be able to do. One of them is to graduate from a state-approved training facility. Most of the programs that are found in the state can be finished in a matter of 6 months. To ensure that you will be able to apply for the exams, you must only enroll in a program that is approved by the state. Another important thing to have to take the exams is to be able to pass the criminal background checks. These checks are done at both federal and state levels. You will not be able to pass if you were convicted of certain crimes. Keep in mind that passing the background checks is not a requirement to be in the registry but is a law of the state.
The state of Indiana is allows nursing assistants that come from other states or countries to apply for reciprocity to be able to work. Before applying, they must be sure that they meet the amount of training hours that is required by the state. They must also have a good standing with the state that they come from. During the background check, they will see if the applicant has a criminal background or other negative records.
