Before you can get a job as a nursing assistant in the state of Tennessee you must be listed on the nurse aide registry. To be listed you will need to enroll in a program that provides the proper curriculum to train you for the job and prepare you to take the competency exam. Training usually lasts 75 hours or more and will teach 25 fundamental health related skills. Class curriculum includes both clinical hands-on experience and classroom instruction in basic theoretical components required at the state and federal level.
Once you have completed a training regimen you can submit your application to take the competency tests. The tests are both a written exam and a manual skills test. With the manual skills test you will need to perform your aptitude in 5 of the skills you learned during class instruction. With the written section of the exams you must score at least a 70% to pass. Those who complete both parts are then added to the nurse aide registry and eligible to become employed for 24 months.
