You are required to complete a CNA training program before you can take the certification exams. Classes are typically over 100 hours in duration and must be approved by the state of Rhode Island. You will be spending your hours there in both lectures and physical skills training. While in the clinical setting, you will be under the supervision of a registered nurse. You will not be asked to perform anything that has not been tackled in the classroom.
Once your classes are complete you can submit an application along with your school transcripts, completed application, photo I.D’s, proof immunizations, TB card, fingerprints and a background check to schedule a time to take the test. The test is two parts and includes a written element and a manual skills test. Those who pass are listed on the registry and can work for 24 months before needing to renew.
