The state of Tennessee will require you to have a certification if you wish to work in a health institution as a CNA. Enrolling in a state approved school is a requirement before you can take the competency test.
Classes must be administered by a registered nurse and provide 75 hours of classes. The instruction will include clinical hands-on experience and classroom course work. During your course you will learn 25 nursing skills that you will use while employed and during your testing.
To get your certification you will have to complete the license examinations which include both a written and skills component. During your skills testing you will need to demonstrate 5 different nursing skills. With your written test you will need to score better than 70% to pass. Once you pass the exams, your name will be entered in their registry and you will be able to work for up to 2 years before needing to renew.
