Training to learn the fundamental nursing skills needed for the job and passing the state competency exams are a couple of the mandatory requirements before you can work as a CNA in Tennessee. Training programs are required to provide instruction that is administered by a registered nurse. In addition programs must offer 75 hour minimum of instruction including clinical hands-on experience and classroom course work. During your school classes your curriculum will include 25 different nursing skills which will be needed on the job and you will be tested on before you can receive your certification.

If you have previously trained to become a certified nursing assistant in most states other than Tennessee you may be able to apply for reciprocity. The requirements for CNAs that come from Georgia, North Carolina and Florida are a bit different from the other states. Those that come from Georgia are only required to take Tennessee’s nursing assistant license exams. As for those that come from the other two states, they must undergo retraining as well as take the state exams.
